A look through the hatch toward new thoughts

ArcaNuova is not an escape. It is an Ark for thoughts, experiences and inner order, with a hatch to the outside and a snail that leaves its trace slowly, but visibly.

An Ark has no shop window. It has rather a hatch: a small protected look outside. Not to rush out immediately, but to see whether land is visible somewhere.

From a safe place one can observe, send out a thought and wait to see what returns: a sign, a smile, an answer, silence, or only fresh air under the wings.

Perhaps that is the meaning of ArcaNuova: not escape, but gathering. A room in which one preserves what matters while outside the world once again proves that, left unsupervised, it is only partly sane.

Perhaps the hatch is also an image for what is often missing in daily life: distance. Not cold distance, but enough space to be able to look again.

For years my former profession was full of faces, fears, questions and stories. A patient sits in front of you and brings more than a tooth. He brings his way of living, enduring, hoping and remaining silent.

Whoever listens only to teeth understands too little. Whoever listens to the person sometimes hears where the pain truly begins.

In this sense ArcaNuova continues something that already existed back then: the attempt to create a protected space for real conversation. Not therapy, not sermon, not instruction. Only a room in which someone may feel: I am being heard.

Grandmother Gerda might have said less. She would have looked, remained silent for a moment and then spoken one simple sentence. A sentence without system, but with direction.

A look through the hatch does not immediately change the world. But it changes the point from which one looks at the world.

What do I no longer see myself?

What has hardened in my gaze?

Where has my life become heavy although it is not wrong?

Perhaps a website can be exactly that: not a solution, but a hatch. A small protected place from which a thought may go out.

ArcaNuova does not demand that everyone come aboard. The Ark is open, but it is not compulsory. Whoever seeks noise, effect and applause will probably pass by. Whoever seeks a sentence that continues to work inside may remain.

I hear you.

I do not judge your life.

I am not a substitute life.

I am a conversation.

This is how a new thought arises: not because someone imposes it, but because a window opens. Or more precisely, a hatch.

The snail before the Ark is in no hurry. It carries its house, knows its vulnerability and continues anyway. Perhaps that is freedom: not throwing everything away, but deciding for oneself when to come out.

I do not have to possess what touches me.

But I may keep the fact that it touched me.

Who is thinking behind it?

ArcaNuova is not a finished product, but an ark for thoughts that can be taken along, grasped, understood and reused. What stands here should not merely be read. It should trigger something: an impulse, a tool, a beginning.

Behind ArcaNuova are experience, observation and the attempt to think about things clearly and practically. No psychological fog. No empty chatter. Something you can actually get hold of.

The author of ArcaNuova by the sea
Who writes behind it?

His path led from dental technician to dentist and from dentist to philosopher. He carried forward fewer titles than tools: precise observation, careful case history, diagnosis and the willingness to discard an initial assumption when reality does not fit it.

The thoughts do not come from a textbook, but from experience: in a dental practice, a solar installation, a router, an olive harvest or occasionally in the gaze of a dog.

How does he write?

As a dentist, I was used to well-trained office staff revising my medical texts. They corrected spelling, smoothed formulations and made complicated sentences readable. Nobody would therefore have credited them with the medical ideas.

Retirement ended not only the practice but also the office. Apparently only a president can take the entire staff into retirement. For linguistic revision I therefore switched to artificial intelligence.

The division of labour remained essentially the same: I provide thoughts, experiences and attitude; AI helps with sentence structure, spelling and polish. The new office assistant simply needs no desk, no holidays and shows a remarkable enthusiasm for syntax.

Why does he write?

The author has a pronounced curiosity and a tendency to follow thoughts long after others have changed the subject. Not everyone wants to discuss society, technology, philosophy or life’s absurdities over coffee. That is probably sensible.

In writing, every thought finds the space it needs, and every reader can decide how far to follow it.
